North Sikkim's Gurudongmar Lake, at 5,183 metres, is one of the highest lakes in the world — a site sacred to both Sikhs and Buddhists, surrounded by glacier-scraped moraine and 360-degree Himalayan views. Yumthang Valley's wildflower meadows are equally arresting, particularly during the spring rhododendron bloom. Pelling in West Sikkim faces Kanchenjunga at remarkably close range.
