Overview

The Eastern Delight tour is a 5 Nights / 6 Days private van holiday through the scenic Eastern Himalayas covering Gangtok (2 nights), Kalimpong (1 night), and Darjeeling (2 nights). You begin your journey in Gangtok, exploring glacial and mountainous attractions such as Tshangu Lake and Baba Mandir, with optional access to Nathula Pass (permit and supplement required), and city sights like Banjhakri Falls, the Research Institute of Tibetology, the Directorate of Handicraft & Handloom, and the Flower Show. Then travel to Kalimpong, where you can enjoy panoramic views, flower nurseries, paragliding at Deolo Hill, and the golf course surrounds. Finally, continue to Darjeeling for 2 nights, where you will experience the sunrise at Tiger Hills, visit Japanese Temple & Peace Pagoda, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Tenzing & Gombu Rock, and enjoy panoramic views of the tea estates.     01

    Arrival Njp/Ixb- Gangtok Gangtok (5412Ft/1650Mts,130Kms/04 to 05 Hrs Drive)

    On arrival at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) or Bagdogra Airport (IXB) (413 Ft / 126 Mts), you will be warmly received by our local representative. After a brief meet and greet, you will be assisted to board your vehicle for the onward journey to Gangtok.

    The drive to Gangtok covers approximately 130 kms and takes around 4 to 5 hours, passing through scenic mountain roads and beautiful river valleys. Upon arrival in Gangtok, check in at the hotel and relax after your journey.

    02

    Gangtok – Excursion to Tshangu Lake & New Baba Mandir

    After breakfast, proceed for a full-day excursion to Tsomgo Lake (also known as Tshangu Lake) situated at an altitude of 12,400 Ft / 3,780 Mts, approximately 43 Kms from Gangtok. The drive takes around 2 hours one way, passing through winding mountain roads and scenic landscapes. The lake, with an average depth of about 50 feet, is known for its cool waters and stunning alpine surroundings.

    From Tshangu Lake, continue further for about 18 Kms (01 hour drive) to visit New Baba Mandir, located at 13,100 Ft / 3,994 Mts. The shrine is dedicated to Baba Harbhajan Singh and holds great spiritual significance among visitors and locals alike. After completing the visit, return to Gangtok.

    In case the visit to Tshangu Lake is not possible due to landslides or any unforeseen circumstances, an alternative sightseeing option will be provided.

    Important Note – Documents Required:
    For visiting Tshangu Lake and New Baba Mandir, guests must carry 02 passport-size photographs along with a photo copy of a valid Photo ID Proof (Passport, Driving License, or Voter ID). Pan Card and Aadhaar Card are not accepted. For children below 18 years, a Date of Birth Certificate (in English) is mandatory along with School or College ID as supporting document. Originals must be carried while traveling.

    The process for Foreign Nationals, OCI & PIO card holders is different; kindly inform in advance so that the itinerary can be planned accordingly.

    Optional Excursion:
    Visit to Nathu La (14,137 Ft / 4,310 Mts), located on the Indo-China Border, can be arranged at a supplement cost of INR 5,500 + 5% GST per person. Nathula remains closed for tourists on Monday and is permitted for Indian Nationals only, subject to advance permit approval. Nathula permits are limited and can sometimes be facilitated more easily for government employees or those having army contacts. Guests are advised to use their sources, if available, for permit procurement.

    03

    Gangtok – Kalimpong (4091 Ft / 1247 Mts, 85 Kms / 03 To 04 Hrs)

    After breakfast, check out from your hotel in Gangtok and proceed for a half-day sightseeing tour of the city. The tour includes a visit to the Flower Show, Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom (closed on 2nd & 4th Saturday, Sunday, local festivals and State & National Government holidays), Do Drul Chorten, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (closed on 2nd & 4th Saturday, Sunday, local festivals and State & National Government holidays) and Banjhakri Falls.

    If the Research Institute of Tibetology and Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom remain closed due to holidays, alternative sightseeing will be provided to Bakthang Waterfall and the Ropeway (if operational; tickets to be paid directly).

    Later, drive to Kalimpong, covering a distance of approximately 85 kms in 3 to 4 hours. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and relax.

    Kalimpong – Darjeeling -Darjeeling (6710 Ft / 2046 Mts,70 Kms / 03 to 04 Hrs drive)

    After breakfast, check out from your hotel in Kalimpong and proceed for local sightseeing. The tour includes a visit to Deolo Hill, known for its panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, a Flower Nursery famous for exotic plants and orchids, a panoramic view of the Golf Course, Jang Dong Palriffo Brang Monastery, and Durpin Dara Hill, which offers beautiful views of the Teesta River and Himalayan ranges on a clear day.

    Later, drive to Darjeeling, covering approximately 70 kms in about 3 to 4 hours. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and relax.

    05

    Darjeeling-Darjeeling (6710 Ft / 2046 Mts)

    Early morning at around 04:00 AM (subject to clear weather), proceed to Tiger Hill (8,482 Ft / 2,586 Mts) to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the mighty Kangchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world. After the sunrise experience, return to the hotel for breakfast.

    Post breakfast, head out for a half-day local sightseeing tour of Darjeeling. The tour covers the Japanese Peace Pagoda, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (closed on Thursday, local festivals, and State & National Government holidays). You will also visit Tenzing Rock and enjoy a panoramic tour of the lush Tea Estates that make Darjeeling world famous. After sightseeing, return to the hotel.

    Note:
    The visit to Tiger Hill is subject to the availability of entry coupons, as only 600 vehicles are permitted in the morning. In case coupons are not available, the Tiger Hill visit will be arranged after breakfast.

    Darjeeling - Njp / Ixb-New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (Njp) / Bagdogra Airport (Ixb) (413 Ft / 126 Mts, 100 Kms / 03 To 04 Hrs Drive)

    After breakfast, check out from your hotel in Darjeeling and proceed with your transfer to New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) or Bagdogra Airport (IXB) for your onward journey. The drive covers approximately 100 kms and takes around 3 to 4 hours, depending on road and traffic conditions.

    Optional Detour:
    You may opt for a scenic drive via Pashupati Nagar (Indo–Nepal border) for shopping and a visit to Mirik Lake (4,905 Ft / 1,495 Mts). At Mirik Lake, horse riding and boating are available on direct payment basis. Charges for this optional detour are applicable as per the supplement and optional cost column.

    Important Note for Pashupati Nagar Visit:
    For shopping at Pashupati Nagar, the vehicle will stop at the Indian side of the border. Guests are required to walk across to the Nepalese side. From there, a local taxi can be hired at an approximate cost of INR 400 to 500 one way to reach the market. Guests may also choose to walk, as the market is located about 2 kms from the border gate.
