Route: Bangalore – Mysore – Coorg – Ooty – Bangalore

At The Kangaroo Travels, we invite you to discover a side of South India that feels like a step back in time. This 7-day loop is a curated blend of royal grandeur and high-altitude escapes, designed for those who love heritage as much as they love the morning mist.

Your journey begins in the vibrant pulse of Bangalore, but the pace soon shifts as we reach Mysore. Here, the air carries the scent of sandalwood and jasmine, and the majestic Mysore Palace glows like a golden jewel. It’s a city where every corner tells a story of kings and craftsmen.

Next, we climb into the "Scotland of India"—Coorg. This is where the world slows down. You’ll wake up to the aroma of fresh coffee beans, walk through sprawling estates, and stand under the spray of Abbey Falls. It’s a green sanctuary where the only schedule to follow is the rhythm of nature.

The adventure then winds its way to the "Queen of Hill Stations," Ooty. From the blue-tinted Nilgiri mountains to the colorful blooms of the Botanical Gardens, Ooty offers a nostalgic charm that is hard to find elsewhere. A quiet boat ride on Ooty Lake is the perfect way to soak in the cool mountain breeze before we head back to the plains.

We return you to Bangalore with a heart full of heritage and a mind refreshed by the hills. Let The Kangaroo Travels guide you through this classic southern trail where every mile is a masterpiece.

    Day 1 :Bangalore - Mysore - (3 Hrs 26 Min - 144 kms)

Upon your arrival at Bangalore Airport, our representative will greet you and assist with your transfer to Mysore. Along the way, we stop at Srirangapatna to visit Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, famously known as Dariya Daulat Bagh or the "Wealth of the Sea." Built in 1784 on a raised stone platform with ornate teak pillars, this palace was once described as the "Envy of Heaven." It stands as a stunning testament to the era of Hyder Ali Khan and Tipu Sultan. After soaking in the history, we continue to Mysore to check into your hotel and freshen up.

By 5:00 PM, we head to the world-renowned Brindavan Gardens, a masterpiece designed by Sir Mirza Ismail and inspired by the Mughal style of Kashmir's Shalimar Gardens. Situated by the KRS Dam on the Cauvery River, this terrace garden is a breathtaking display of botanical variety and illuminated fountains. The highlight of the evening is the spectacular sound and light show, where water dances to vibrant melodies. After the show, we return to the hotel for a delicious dinner and a restful night.

    Day 2 :Mysore - Coorg - (2 Hrs 60 Min – 110 kms)

After breakfast, we check out early for a scenic drive to Coorg. Before leaving the city, we visit the legendary Mysore Palace, a masterpiece completed in 1912. Designed by Henry Irwin, this stone building with grey granite and striking deep pink marble domes is a premier example of Indo-Saracenic architecture—a blend of Hindu, Islamic, Rajput, and Gothic styles. The palace features a 145-foot tower and a grand portico with seven vast arches. Entry is through the Varaha Gate, and visitors can enjoy facilities like free wheelchairs, camera custody, footwear stands, drinking water, and clean toilets, with Government Approved Guides available.

The palace is open from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm, with an entry fee of INR 40 for Indians and INR 200 for Foreign Nationals. If your visit coincides with the Mysore Dasara Festival (usually October or November), you can witness the palace illuminated by over 96,000 lights and the grand 10th-day parade of ornamented elephants. Regular sound and light shows run Monday to Saturday (7:00 pm – 7:40 pm), with full illumination on Sundays and holidays from 7:00 pm – 7:45 pm.

Following the palace tour, we continue our journey to Coorg (Kodagu). Once an independent state before merging with Mysore in 1956, Coorg is celebrated globally for its sprawling coffee plantations and the warm hospitality of its people. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and freshen up; if we reach by 2:00 pm, you'll have ample time to settle in. The evening is yours to enjoy personal activities before dinner.

    Day 3 :Coorg

Start your morning with a relaxed breakfast and some free time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings of your resort. Later in the day, we set out to explore the landmarks of Madikeri. Our first stop is the Omkareshwara Temple, an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. What makes this temple truly special is its unique architecture—a rare and beautiful blend of Gothic and Islamic styles, featuring a central dome and minarets that reflect across its calm water tank.

Next, we head into the lush greenery to visit Abbey Falls. Tucked away within spice and coffee plantations, these falls were once known as "Jessi Falls," named after the wife of a British officer when the area was still a dense, untouched jungle. We’ll wrap up the afternoon at Raja’s Seat, a historic viewpoint where the Kings of Kodagu once sat to watch the sunset over the rolling hills. After soaking in the panoramic views, we return to the hotel for a quiet evening.

    Day 4 :Coorg

After breakfast, we head to the Dubare Elephant Camp, a renowned forest camp situated on the scenic banks of the River Kaveri. As an important base for the Karnataka Forest Department, it offers a rare chance to see elephants in a natural setting. You can choose to participate in various activities like elephant interactions, feeding, or even some adventurous quad biking through the rugged terrain. It is a fantastic way to start the day immersed in the wildlife and river landscapes of Kodagu.

In the afternoon, we transition from the wild to the spiritual with a visit to the Golden Temple (Namdroling Monastery). This is one of the largest Tibetan settlements in South India and is world-famous for its magnificent monasteries and towering golden statues. While here, you can explore the local Tibetan handicrafts, observe the intricate work at the carpet factories, or visit the incense factory. It’s a peaceful, colorful experience that feels like a world of its own before we return to the hotel for a relaxing evening.

As we wind through the Nilgiri hills, the landscape shifts to rolling tea gardens and eucalyptus forests. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and take a moment to freshen up before we head out to the heart of the town—Ooty Lake.

The lake is a hub of activity and the perfect place to shake off the travel fatigue. You can spend the afternoon enjoying a peaceful boat ride on the water, or if you're feeling active, try horse riding or cycling along the lake’s edge. Families often love the charm of the mini-train ride that skirts the water’s perimeter. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the best time to visit these destinations?

The ideal time is between October and March. During these months, the weather is pleasant in Mysore and Bangalore, and you’ll experience the iconic "misty hills" and cool, crisp air in Coorg and Ooty.

Is the Toy Train ride in Ooty included in the package?

Typically, the Toy Train (Nilgiri Mountain Railway) is an optional activity and is not included in the base price. Tickets are in high demand, so if you'd like to experience it, please let us know in advance so we can assist with the booking process.

What kind of clothing should I pack?

Since you are visiting both the plains and high-altitude hills, you need variety. Pack light cottons for Mysore and Bangalore, but carry light woolens or a jacket for Coorg and Ooty, as temperatures can drop significantly in the evenings and early mornings.

Are all entry fees and activity costs covered?

As mentioned in the itinerary, entry fees for monuments (like Mysore Palace or Tipu Sultan's Palace) and activity costs (like boating at Ooty Lake or elephant interaction at Dubare) are to be paid directly at the counters. This allows you the flexibility to choose only the activities you are interested in.

How much traveling/driving is involved daily?

The journey involves scenic drives ranging from 3 to 5 hours between destinations. We use comfortable, private vehicles with experienced drivers to ensure the road trips are a highlight of your holiday rather than a chore.
