FAQs

What is the best time to visit Sikkim & Darjeeling?

The best time to visit Gangtok, Lachung, and Darjeeling is from March to June and October to December. During these months, the weather remains pleasant with clear mountain views, making it ideal for sightseeing and excursions. Spring and early summer bring blooming rhododendrons in North Sikkim, while autumn offers crisp air and excellent visibility of the Himalayan peaks. January and February are suitable for travelers who wish to experience snowfall, especially in Lachung and Yumthang. The monsoon season from July to September is less recommended due to heavy rainfall and possible landslides.

What is the temperature in these locations?

The temperature varies depending on altitude and season. In Gangtok, it generally ranges between 4°C and 25°C throughout the year. Lachung and Yumthang, being at higher altitudes, are much colder, with temperatures ranging from -5°C to 18°C, especially during winter. Darjeeling experiences temperatures between 2°C and 22°C annually. Even during summer, evenings in North Sikkim can be chilly, so carrying warm clothing is always advisable.

What are the local cuisines to try?

The region offers a delightful mix of Sikkimese, Nepali, and Tibetan flavors. Popular dishes include momos (steamed dumplings), thukpa (a hearty noodle soup), and traditional items like phagshapa, gundruk, and sinki. Sel roti is another local favorite often enjoyed during festivals. Darjeeling is world-famous for its aromatic tea, which is a must-try during your stay. Vegetarian and Jain meal options are also widely available in hotels and local restaurants.

Can I upgrade my hotel or extend my stay?

Yes, hotel upgrades are possible subject to availability and seasonal pricing. Travelers can upgrade from standard hotels to deluxe or premium categories for enhanced comfort. Additionally, the duration of stay in Gangtok, Lachung, or Darjeeling can be extended by adding extra nights along with customized sightseeing. Any upgrade or extension will involve a supplementary cost depending on the chosen hotel category and travel dates.?

Is this tour suitable for senior citizens?

This tour is suitable for senior citizens; however, the North Sikkim sector, including Lachung and Yumthang, involves long road journeys and high-altitude travel. Individuals with respiratory or heart conditions should consult their doctor before planning the trip. It is also advisable to travel at a comfortable pace and stay well hydrated.
