Thekangarootravels presents the Sikkim Splendor – 9 Nights / 10 Days journey covering the scenic beauty of North East India. Your trip begins with arrival at Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station, followed by a transfer to Gangtok, where you explore key attractions like the Research Institute of Tibetology, Directorate of Handicraft & Handloom, and local flower exhibitions over two days. The journey continues to Lachung, a picturesque mountain village in North Sikkim, including an excursion to Zero Point, known for its snow-covered landscapes and breathtaking Himalayan views, before returning to Gangtok. The tour then proceeds to Pelling, where you visit the magnificent Chenrezig Statue & Skywalk, the serene Rimbi Waterfalls, and the sacred Khecheopalri Lake. Finally, the journey concludes in Darjeeling, where you explore iconic attractions such as Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, and the scenic Tenzing & Gombu Rock before departure.     01

    Arrival – NJP Railway Station / (IXB) Bagdogra Airport to Gangtok

    On arrival at NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport (413 Ft / 126 Mts), you will be received by our office executive who will assist you in boarding your vehicle for the onward journey to Gangtok (5412 Ft / 1650 Mts). The distance of 130 kms will be covered in approximately 04 to 05 hours. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel and relax.

    02

    Gangtok – Tshangu Lake & Baba Mandir Excursion

    After breakfast, proceed for an excursion to Tsomgo Lake (Tshangu Lake) located at an altitude of 12,400 Ft / 3,780 Mts, approximately 43 Kms from Gangtok, which takes around 03 hours one way. The lake, with an average depth of about 50 ft, is known for its cool, crystal-clear waters set amidst scenic mountain surroundings. From Tshangu Lake, continue to Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir (Baba Mandir) situated at 13,100 Ft / 3,994 Mts, approximately 16 Kms and about 01 hour one way from the lake. After completing the visit, return to Gangtok for an overnight stay at the hotel. In case of a landslide or any other unforeseen reason if Tshangu Lake remains closed, alternate sightseeing will be arranged.

    Important Note: NRI, OCI, PIO Card holders and Foreign Nationals are not permitted to visit Baba Mandir and Nathula Pass. They are allowed to visit Tshangu Lake only with a valid permit and must be a minimum of 02 persons to obtain the permit. For further details, please refer to Entry Formality & Document Requirement. Once the permit for Tshangu Lake and Nathula Pass is confirmed by Sikkim Tourism, there will be no refund under any circumstances such as landslide, heavy rainfall, VIP movement, health issues, etc.

    Optional: Nathula Pass excursion can be arranged at an additional supplement cost.

    Gangtok – Lachung

    After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in Gangtok and transferred to Lachung (8,000 Ft / 2,439 Mts), covering a distance of 124 Kms in approximately 05½ to 06½ hours. En route, visit Tashi View Point and Seven Sisters Waterfall (subject to the vehicle taking the normal route). These sightseeing points are included on a complimentary basis; in case of route diversion, these points may be missed and no refund will be applicable. Upon arrival in Lachung, check in at the hotel.

    Important Note: NRI, OCI, PIO Card holders and Foreign Nationals are permitted to visit Lachung, Yumthang and Yumesamdong with a valid permit and must be a minimum of 02 persons to obtain the permit.     04

    Lachung – Yumthang Excursion

    Early morning, proceed for a half-day excursion to Yumthang Valley (11,800 Ft / 3,598 Mts), located 25 Kms from Lachung, which takes approximately 1½ hours one way. Yumthang Valley is one of the main attractions for visitors to this region. The colorful Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary blooms between April and June, adding vibrant shades to the landscape. Surrounded by soaring snow-capped peaks and grazing yaks, the valley offers a true Himalayan experience. The valley is also known for its hot spring. Although the water appears quite muddy, many locals believe in its healing properties and visit to take a dip. After the excursion, return to Lachung.

    Optional Excursion:
    Visit Yumesamdong (Zero Point) at 15,300 Ft / 4,665 Mts, located 24 Kms from Yumthang, which takes approximately 1½ to 2 hours one way. The Yumesamdong excursion can be availed at a supplement cost of INR 3,500.00 per vehicle. Situated beyond Yumthang, the journey passes through rugged mountain roads. The sweet fragrance of Ezilia, a plant used by local inhabitants to manufacture incense sticks, fills the air during the drive.

    Lachung – Gangtok

    After breakfast, transfer from Lachung to Gangtok (5,412 Ft / 1,650 Mts), covering a distance of 124 Kms in approximately 05½ to 06½ hours. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel.

    Gangtok – Pelling

    After breakfast in Gangtok, proceed for a half-day sightseeing tour (approximately 04 hours) covering Ban Jhakri Falls, Do Drul Chorten, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (Closed on Sunday, 02nd Saturday, Local Festivals and State & National Government holidays), Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom (Closed on Sunday, 02nd Saturday, Local Festivals and State & National Government holidays) and the Flower Show.

    In the afternoon, transfer to Pelling (5,500 Ft / 1,675 Mts), covering a distance of 116 Kms in approximately 05 to 06 hours. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel in Pelling.

    Note: If the Research Institute of Tibetology and Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom are closed due to Sunday, 02nd Saturday, Local Festival or State & National Government holidays, then Nam Nang View Point and Enchey Monastery will be included as alternative sightseeing.

    Pelling

    After breakfast in Pelling, proceed for local sightseeing covering Pemayangtse Monastery and the magnificent Chenrezig Statue & Skywalk. After an early lunch, continue your sightseeing with a visit to Rimbi Waterfall, Khecheopalri Lake (6,000 Ft / 1,829 Mts) and Kanchenjunga Waterfall. After completing the day’s sightseeing, return to the hotel.

    After breakfast, proceed for a half-day sightseeing tour covering Japanese Temple, Peace Pagoda Darjeeling, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (Closed on Thursday, Local Festivals and State & National Government holidays), Tenzing and Gombu Rock, Tibetan Refugee Self Help Center (Closed on Sunday, Local Festivals and State & National Government holidays) and a panoramic view of the Tea Estate. After sightseeing, return to the hotel.

    Darjeeling – NJP Railway Station / (IXB) Bagdogra Airport

    After breakfast, transfer from Darjeeling to NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport (413 Ft / 126 Mts), covering a distance of 100 Kms in approximately 03 to 04 hours for your onward journey.

    Optional: Drive via Mirik can be availed at a supplement cost of INR 1,500.00 per vehicle.

What is the best time to visit Sikkim?

The best time to visit Gangtok, Lachung, Pelling and Darjeeling is from March to June (pleasant weather and clear mountain views) and October to December (cool climate with excellent visibility of Kanchenjunga). April to June is ideal for blooming rhododendrons in Yumthang Valley.

What is the temperature in these destinations?

The temperature in Gangtok, Lachung, Yumthang Valley, Pelling and Darjeeling varies by season. During summer (April to June), the climate remains pleasant and comfortable with temperatures ranging between 10°C to 25°C. In the monsoon season (July to September), temperatures generally stay between 15°C to 22°C, accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall. Winter (October to February) is colder, with temperatures ranging from 0°C to 15°C; in North Sikkim, especially in Lachung and higher-altitude areas like Yumthang and Zero Point, temperatures can drop below zero. Overall, North Sikkim remains significantly colder compared to Gangtok, Pelling and Darjeeling throughout the year.
