Start your day early with a visit to the Golden Temple during sunrise, one of the most iconic and spiritual landmarks in India. Known to Sikhs as Harmandir Sahib or Darbar Sahib, the temple is built on a rectangular platform surrounded by the sacred pool called Amrit Sarovar, from which the city derives its name. Every morning, the Guru Granth Sahib (the Holy Book of Sikhs) is installed in the temple and returned at night to the Akal Takht, the temporal seat of the Khalsa brotherhood. Decorated with exquisite gold and marble work, the temple’s beauty is at its peak during sunrise and after sunset when it is beautifully illuminated. Timings: 3:00 am – 10:00 pm, with no entry fee. Visitors can also participate in Langar Seva or enjoy Langar Prasad at the Gurudwara in the morning.

Within the Golden Temple complex, also visit the Akal Takht, the highest seat of authority for the Khalsa. Orders from the Akal Takht are binding for all Sikhs, making it a place of immense spiritual and historical significance.

Return to the hotel for breakfast, and then proceed to Jallianwala Bagh, a site of tragic historical importance where many people were massacred by the East India Company on 13th April 1919. The walls still bear bullet marks, and information plaques across the park narrate the events and significance of this landmark. Timings: 6:30 am – 7:30 pm, with no entry fee.

Next, visit Ramgarh Palace, the former summer residence of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, now converted into a museum. The palace houses royal arms and armor, paintings, manuscripts, and various personal belongings of the Maharaja, offering a glimpse into the royal lifestyle.

In the afternoon, around 3:00 pm, drive to the Attari Wagah Border (31 kms from Amritsar) to witness the prestigious Lowering of the Flags Ceremony at sunset, a patriotic spectacle that draws visitors from across the world.
