It was built over a century ago to look like a mix of Paris and New York, but today it’s a beautifully kitsch time capsule. Standing under the shadows of the Tsutenkaku Tower, you’ll find narrow alleys serving kushikatsu—deep-fried skewers of everything from lotus root to quail eggs. Just remember the Golden Rule: no double-dipping in the shared sauce!

And then, there’s the quiet power of Osaka Castle. Walking through the massive Ote-mon Gate, you’re tracing the steps of Shoguns and warlords. The stone walls are so perfectly fitted together they look like a giant jigsaw puzzle from the 16th century. If you’re lucky enough to be there when the cherry blossoms are drifting into the moat, it feels less like a city and more like a scene from an ancient scroll. Osaka doesn’t just show you its history; it invites you to pull up a chair and have a bite of it.
