From Misty Tea Peaks to the Golden Glow of the Backwaters
Overview
The Exotic Kerala (6 Nights / 7 Days) journey is a masterfully planned retreat that captures the three most distinct landscapes of God’s Own Country: the misty mountains, the wild spice forests, and the tranquil backwaters. The tour begins with a 3-night stay in Munnar, the premier hill station of the South. During this time, you will wander through sprawling tea estates and visit the Tea Museum, witness the endangered Nilgiri Tahr at Rajamalai (Eravikulam) National Park, and enjoy the scenic vistas of Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Lake, and the natural phenomenon of Echo Point. The lush greenery and cool climate of Munnar provide a perfect introduction to the state’s natural beauty.
The journey then transitions to the wildlife-rich highlands of Thekkady for 1 night. This segment is a sensory delight where you will walk through aromatic spice plantations and enjoy a boat ride on the serene Periyar Lake, located within a protected wildlife sanctuary. The evening is dedicated to Kerala’s rich heritage with a captivating Martial Arts and Cultural show, and for those seeking adventure, the opportunity to interact with and ride an elephant adds a unique touch to the experience.
The tour concludes with a relaxing 2-night stay in Kumarakom, nestled on the banks of the vast Vembanad Lake. This portion of the trip is designed for ultimate rejuvenation, featuring a visit to the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary and a peaceful half-hour sunset cruise on the backwaters. After six nights of diverse exploration and 6 breakfasts and dinners at premium accommodations, you will depart from the airport or railway station, taking with you the soul-stirring memories of Kerala’s most exotic locales.

After a leisurely breakfast, start your day with an immersive village walk. This is the perfect way to witness the unhurried pace of life in rural Kerala. You’ll wander through narrow lanes shaded by coconut palms, passing by local homes, small canals, and lush paddy fields. It’s an opportunity to see age-old practices like coir making and shell mining, offering a true taste of the “essential Kumarakom” that lies beyond the luxury resorts.
Later in the morning, proceed to Kottayam city, a hub of culture and commerce. This is your chance to indulge in some serious shopping, specifically for the world-renowned South Indian Silk Sarees. Kottayam’s boutiques are famous for their exquisite collection of Kanchipuram and traditional Kerala Kasavu sarees, known for their rich gold borders and intricate craftsmanship.
Return to the hotel in the afternoon to focus on your well-being. The tranquil atmosphere of Kumarakom is ideal for soothing the senses. We highly recommend indulging in an Ayurvedic spa treatment at the resort. Whether it’s a traditional oil massage or a rejuvenating herbal scrub, these ancient healing therapies are designed to relax the mind, body, and soul.
As evening approaches, find a quiet spot by the shore for a truly magical experience. The sunset on Vembanad Lake is legendary, but it is fleeting—the perfect “golden moment” where the sky transforms into a canvas of deep oranges and purples often lasts for just about five minutes. To round off your final night in Kerala, you can also opt to watch a Kathakali or Kalaripayattu performance. Performed by local artists, these shows bring to life the dramatic storytelling and ancient martial traditions that define Kerala’s cultural identity.
