On arrival at Cochin (Kochi), you will be warmly welcomed and assisted before proceeding on a scenic drive to Munnar, once the summer retreat of the British and today one of Kerala’s most popular hill stations. The journey itself is refreshing, with winding roads, mist-covered hills, cardamom plantations and endless stretches of lush green tea gardens. On the way, enjoy beautiful photo stops near Munnar town at Attukad Waterfalls and Pothamedu View Point, both offering stunning valley and plantation views.

After reaching Munnar, visit the Tata Tea Museum, one of the most important attractions in the region. The museum showcases the history and evolution of tea processing in Munnar and houses unique exhibits such as the traditional tea roller known as “Rotorvane,” used in CTC tea production. A highlight for tea lovers is the experience of learning about tea plucking and tasting different varieties of freshly brewed tea.

After breakfast, proceed for a full-day sightseeing tour of Munnar, exploring its breathtaking natural beauty and popular attractions. Begin with a visit to Eravikulam National Park, located in the Kannan Devan Hills and spread across 97 sq. km. The park is renowned for the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, which can be spotted in the Rajamalai region – the only part open to visitors under the tourism zone. The park is divided into core, buffer and tourism areas, while the core and buffer zones remain restricted to the public.

Note: The park remains closed from February to March every year due to the calving season of Nilgiri Tahr. Advance online booking is advisable.

Next, visit Kundala Lake, home to Asia’s first arch dam. Surrounded by serene hills and valleys, the lake is known for its scenic beauty and the rare Neelakurinji flowers that bloom once every 12 years. Visitors can enjoy pedal boating, row boating and the popular shikara ride.

You will also visit Blossom Park, a beautifully landscaped garden area along the Muthirappuzha River. After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive to Thekkady, located about 2,800 ft above sea level. The journey is scenic, with winding mountain roads, dense wooded stretches and vast plantations unfolding along the way. As you approach Thekkady, the air turns cooler and fragrant with the aroma of cinnamon and cloves, offering a refreshing change from the hills of Munnar.

En route, visit a Spice Plantation in Kumily, a region well known for its favourable climate and elevation, ideal for spice cultivation. Kumily is especially famous for cardamom production — particularly the variety Elettaria Cardamom (Small Cardamom) — which grows at altitudes between 600 to 1200 metres above mean sea level. Kerala contributes nearly 70% of India’s total cardamom production, with a significant share coming from this region. You will also see pepper plantations, where sunlight filtering through the lush green leaves creates a truly picturesque sight.

In the evening, you may choose to attend a cultural performance at the Mudra Cultural Centre (at additional cost), which is popular for traditional Kathakali dance and Kalaripayattu martial arts shows. Still photography is allowed, and it is advisable to arrive early for good seating. Two Kalaripayattu performances are held nightly.

These unique shore-operated fishing nets are believed to have been introduced in the 14th century by the Chinese explorer Zheng He, during the time of the great emperor Kublai Khan. Even today, local fishermen use these massive nets, making it a fascinating sight against the coastal backdrop.

Next, explore Fort Kochi, a historic area that beautifully reflects Kerala’s colonial past. The streets and architecture here showcase influences from the English, Dutch, and Portuguese, giving you a glimpse into the region’s diverse cultural heritage.

Continue your visit to the famous Jewish Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations. Originally built in 1568 and later restored by the Dutch, this place of worship is known for its stunning gold pulpit, hand-painted willow-pattern floor tiles imported from China, an elegant Belgian chandelier, and a distinctive clock tower that enhances its beauty.
