Overview
Southern Wonders – Culture and Coast
Your journey begins in the vibrant coastal town of Mahabalipuram, where you arrive via Chennai to settle into the relaxed seaside atmosphere. The exploration kicks off with a deep dive into UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the magnificent Shore Temple, the monolithic Pancha Pandava Rathas, Arjuna’s Penance, and the gravity-defying Krishna’s Butterball. From these ancient Pallava marvels, the tour heads to Tanjore (Thanjavur) to witness the architectural brilliance of the Brihadeeswara Temple and the historic Maratha Palace. The cultural immersion continues in Madurai, the “Athens of the East,” where you will visit the sprawling Meenakshi Amman Temple and the regal Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace before enjoying a quiet evening in the heart of this temple city.
The itinerary then takes a spiritual turn toward the sacred island of Rameshwaram. Over two days, you will experience the legendary Ramanathaswamy Temple with its iconic long corridors, the holy waters of Agnitheertham, and the stunning Pamban Bridge. You will also venture to the edge of the land at Dhanushkodi, a hauntingly beautiful ghost town known for its unique beach and the Kothandaramaswamy Temple. The journey moves further south to Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of mainland India, where you will take a ferry to the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the Thiruvalluvar Statue, explore the Kanyakumari Temple, and witness a breathtaking sunset where the three seas meet.
The final leg of the tour brings you into the lush landscapes of Kerala, starting with a visit to the wooden architectural marvel of Padmanabhapuram Palace. Upon reaching Trivandrum, you will explore the grand Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, the Napier Museum, and the Sri Chitra Art Gallery. Throughout this 7-night, 8-day private van tour, you are provided with daily breakfast and dinner at your hotels, ensuring a comfortable stay. The trip concludes with a transfer to the Trivandrum Airport for your flight home, carrying with you memories of South India’s most profound spiritual landmarks and coastal wonders.
