Your first stop will be the HAL Aerospace Museum, one of the most interesting aviation museums in India. The museum showcases fascinating exhibits such as the pilotless target aircraft Lakshya, ejection seats with parachutes, ATC surveillance radars, and several aero-engineering displays. Visitors can also explore the Sustainability Park, which features working models of windmills, biogas plants, and solar-powered systems. Later, proceed to visit the magnificent Bangalore Palace, spread across 45,000 acres. Inside the palace, visitors can explore 35 rooms decorated with carved wooden walls, fountains, stained glass windows, grand chandeliers, and famous paintings by artists such as Raja Ravi Varma. A highlight of the palace is the mother-of-pearl studded dining table that belonged to the Diwan of Mysore.

Next, drive past the grand Vidhana Soudha, one of the most iconic buildings in Bangalore and the largest legislative building in India. Beautifully carved granite pillars, domes, and walls enhance its grandeur, while the surrounding gardens, fountains, and flower beds add to its charm.

Continue your visit to the ISKCON Temple, one of the most popular spiritual attractions in the city. Visitors can also explore the Vedic museum and exhibitions within the complex. The temple regularly hosts devotional songs, prayer sessions, lectures, and recitals.

On the way, visit Lal Bagh Botanical Garden (if time permits). This historic botanical garden dates back to the 17th century and was developed under the initiative of the ruler Tipu Sultan. The garden is known for its beautifully landscaped flower beds, ponds, and rare plant species. One of its most fascinating attractions is a 3,000-million-year-old rock, considered among the oldest rocks in the world. Lal Bagh houses more than 1,000 exotic plant species brought from countries like Afghanistan and Persia. Visitors can also spot birds such as Brahminy kite, pond heron, and mynas. The garden is also famous for its flower shows, boating activities on the lake, and cultural events like folk dances and music concerts held on the second and fourth weekends.

Continue your journey and visit Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, also known as Dariya Daulat Bagh, meaning “wealth of the sea.” This beautiful palace served as the summer retreat of Tipu Sultan and has long fascinated visitors with its elegance and history. Tipu Sultan himself referred to it as the “Abode of Happiness” and the “Envy of Heaven.” The palace stands on a raised stone platform and features elegant teakwood pillars, artistic interiors, and detailed paintings. The construction of the palace was started by Hyder Ali Khan in 1778 and later completed by his son Tipu Sultan in 1784 AD.

Upon arrival in Mysore, check in to the hotel and freshen up. In the evening around 5:00 PM, drive to Brindavan Gardens to witness the famous sound and light show.

Brindavan Gardens is one of the most beautiful terrace gardens in the world and is located about 12 km northwest of Mysore city. The garden is famous for its illuminated fountains, botanical park, and a wide variety of plants. The idea to develop these gardens came from Sir Mirza Ismail, the then Diwan of Mysore State, who wanted to beautify the area around the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam (KRS Dam). The dam, built over the Cauvery River, was named after Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. The design of Brindavan Gardens was inspired by the famous Shalimar Gardens of Kashmir, reflecting the traditional Mughal style with beautifully arranged terraces, water channels, fountains, lawns, and flower beds.

Today morning after breakfast, start early and proceed to visit the magnificent Mysore Palace, one of the most iconic landmarks of Karnataka. The present structure of the palace was completed in 1912 and is known for its stunning Indo-Saracenic architectural style, which beautifully blends Hindu, Islamic, Rajput, and Gothic elements. Surrounded by well-designed gardens, the palace is a three-storied structure built with stone and marble domes. It also features a five-storied tower with a height of 145 feet. One of the most striking features of the palace is its deep pink marble domes placed on top of the grey granite building, designed by the famous architect Henry Irwin. The grand portico of the palace has seven large arches, with the central arch flanked by two smaller ones and supported by tall decorative pillars, making the entire structure truly mesmerizing.

Another major attraction of the Mysore Palace is the world-famous Mysore Dasara Festival, which is celebrated here with great grandeur. During this festival, stages are set up within the palace grounds where many renowned artists perform. On the 10th day, Dashami, a grand procession featuring decorated elephants begins from the palace grounds. This vibrant celebration usually takes place during October or November. During the festival season, the palace is illuminated with more than 96,000 lights for nearly two months, creating a spectacular and unforgettable sight.

Later continue your journey towards Ooty. Enroute you may visit Bandipur National Park, located on the Mysore–Ooty highway. The park is one of the most important wildlife reserves in South India and covers an area of 874 square kilometers. It is home to several endangered species of animals and plants. Bandipur National Park, along with Mudumalai National Park, Wayanad National Park, and Nagarhole National Park, forms the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, which is the largest protected wildlife region in South India and also the region with the highest population of wild elephants in South Asia. The park is well known for sightings of tigers, elephants, and other wildlife species. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu jointly manage this protected region, with the Tamil Nadu side known as the Mudumalai Reserve. Bandipur National Park is also recommended for recognition as a heritage site.

Today morning after breakfast, start early as it will be a busy day exploring the beautiful hill station of Ooty. Begin your sightseeing with a visit to the famous Government Botanical Garden. Spread across 55 hectares, this massive garden is home to a wide variety of colorful flowers, rare plants, and trees. The garden has more than 650 species of plants and trees, making it a delightful place for nature lovers and visitors who enjoy scenic landscapes and well-maintained lawns.

Next, visit the Government Museum, which was established around 1989 to preserve and promote the culture and heritage of Ooty. The museum showcases an impressive collection related to local culture, tribal history, sculptures, and artifacts. Visitors can see various objects that represent the traditions and lifestyle of the Toda tribe, one of the oldest tribes of the Nilgiri region. The museum also displays historical art, crafts, and sculptures that reflect the ecology and heritage of Udhagamandalam.

Later proceed to the Wax World Museum, located in a 130-year-old Colonial Mansion near Ooty Lake. The museum features lifelike wax statues of famous personalities from Indian history. It is an interesting attraction for visitors, especially families and children, offering a chance to see realistic figures of well-known historical personalities.

Continue your visit to the Thread Garden, a unique artificial garden where flowers, plants, and lawns are beautifully crafted using thread, canvas, and wire. The entire garden is created with detailed handwork and showcases incredible craftsmanship.

Afterward, visit Doddabetta Peak, the highest peak in the Nilgiris, located at an altitude of 8,606 feet. From the top, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding Nilgiri hills and valleys. Option 1: Enjoy a scenic journey on the famous Nilgiri Mountain Railway from Ooty to Coonoor (refer to the train details and timetable). This heritage train ride through the Nilgiri hills offers beautiful views of valleys, forests, and tea plantations. After reaching Coonoor, visit popular viewpoints such as Lamb’s Rock and Dolphin’s Nose, both known for their breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys.

Option 2: Take a day trip to Pykara Lake (vehicle cost extra). Pykara is a small village located about 21 kms from Ooty on the Ooty–Mysore Road and is famous for its natural beauty. The area is well known for Pykara Waterfalls and Pykara Lake. Visitors can enjoy speedboat rides at the lake, take relaxing walks through the pine forests, and spend time enjoying the peaceful surroundings. The region is also known for its protected sholas (forest patches), Toda tribal settlements, grassy meadows, and rich wildlife habitat. The Pykara Dam, Pykara Falls, and the reservoir attract many tourists throughout the year. There is also a Forest Rest House at Pykara and a Boat House with a restaurant available for visitors.

Along with the Pykara visit, you may also explore Mudumalai National Park (vehicle cost extra). Mudumalai National Park is one of the earliest wildlife reserves declared in India and is located in the Nilgiri district on the border of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The park lies on the Ooty–Mysore route and can be accessed from both Ooty and Mysore. Recently declared a Tiger Reserve, the park is home to around 50 tigers along with several other species of wildlife.

If time permits and depending on your flight schedule, you can visit Sim’s Park in Coonoor, located about 4 km from Coonoor Railway Station. Situated at an altitude of 1780 meters, Sim’s Park is a beautifully maintained botanical garden divided into eight sections. The park features colorful flower beds, green lawns, and rockeries that enhance its scenic beauty. Among the many rare trees and plants found here are Araucaria, Quercus, Phoenix, Camellia, Pine, and Turpentine trees. Spread across 12 hectares, the garden also has a glass house that showcases a variety of ornamental plants and flowers. The blooming magnolias with vibrant pink and white flowers are especially beautiful and attract many visitors.

You may also visit the Coonoor Tea Estate, where the vast and scenic tea plantations offer a refreshing view of the Nilgiri hills. These tea estates are a popular attraction among travelers, especially tea lovers who enjoy the pleasant aroma and the beautiful surroundings of the plantations.
